Configuration required to browse the ICTT conference web site

Versions and browsers

The "ICTT conference" site can be accessed using all browsers (Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator, Opera, Conqueror, Lynx, etc.) and operating systems (Windows, Mac OS, Unix).

Users of Internet Explorer from version 4.0, Netscape Navigator from version 6.0, Opera 7.0, Conqueror 3.0, all versions of Safari and Mozilla 1.0, with the javascript function activated, are automatically routed to the graphics version of the site containing pull-down menus.

Other browers * are rerouted to a text version containing no javascript element. Users who have disabled javascript ** see a message appear at the top of the page instructing them to follow the link to the text version.

Old browsers which do not support css style sheets or display images are likely to produce a corrupt version of the fonts and layout but the text can still be accessed.

The site does not contain cookies.

Plugins

Acrobat Reader 4.0 *** must be installed on your browser to enable you to read documents in pdf format published on the site.

It is recommended that Real Player be installed in order to view video files.

Screen resolution

The site has been optimised for a screen resolution of 800 by 600 pixels.

In Netscape Navigator, click on the '?' 'Help' menu then select ‘About Communicator’

With Internet Explorer, click on the '?' 'Help' menu then select ‘About Internet Explorer’.

** Configuration of your browser and activating JavaScript

The JavaScript function is activated by default in your browser.
To check whether the function is activated:

- in Netscape Navigator, go to the 'Preferences' menu and select Advanced/Scripts & Modules' and check that the 'enable JavaScript' box is ticked (JavaScript activated)

- in Internet Explorer, go to the 'Tools/Internet Options' menu and select the security tab, click on ‘custom level' and check that the ‘Script/Active scripting’ box is disabled (JavaScript activated)

When Acrobat Reader is launched, the number of the version being used is displayed. To find it you can launch Acrobat from the program bar then click on the '?' menu then select 'About Acrobat Reader’.

Downloading and printing

How do you download documents?

To download a document, simply right click on the link to the document you want to download, then select 'save in' and select the destination folder on your hard drive.

How do you print a page from the Web site?
Click on the icon at the top right of the page that you want to print: a new window opens including only the area of the text. Choose the print option in this new window

Using the search engine

The search engine can be accessed at any time by typing the search term (one word or a group of words) in the field at the top right of the site's pages. Type you request and click on OK.

Note: This search engine is not Boolean and therefore does not take into account the words 'AND' and 'OR'. In addition, the engine takes into account the search in its entirety: if you type in several words, it searches for the whole phrase and not each individual word. Finally, it does not take into account the case (upper case and lower case).

The search indexes the text and name of the pages and sections of the site as well as the content of documents in pdf format.

Search results are limited to 100 and are presented with their tree structure. Html pages are presented first, followed by pdf documents.

How do you add the ICTT conference web site to your bookmarks or favourites?

All pages from the "ICTT conference" web site may be accessed directly by bookmarking them or adding them to your favourites.

To create bookmarks with Netscape Navigator, just position yourself on the page and use the short cut Ctrl ('Control' key on your keyboard) + D. You can also right click with your mouse and select add a bookmark for this page’ or even go into the Bookmarks menu and select 'add a bookmark for this page'. By selecting 'file a bookmark' (Ctrl+MAJ+D) you can also place your bookmark in the appropriate folder.

To create favourites with Internet Explorer :
- type the short cut Ctrl ('Control' key on your keyboard) + D
- or right click then select 'Add to favourites'
- or go to the 'favourites' menu and select 'add to favourites'

How can I make the ICTT conference web site my home page?

With Netscape Navigator, go to the 'Edit' menu and select 'Preferences'. In the dialogue box type http://tice2008.institut-telecom.fr/fr_accueil.html in the 'address' field of the home page zone. Check that the 'Navigator starts with home page' option has been enabled. After that simply click on OK and when you launch your browser, it will open on the "ICTT conference" web site.

With Internet Explorer go to the 'Tools' menu and select 'Internet Options'. In the dialogue box type http://tice2008.institut-telecom.fr/fr_accueil.html in the 'address' field of the home page zone. Then simply click on OK and when you launch your browser it will open on the "ICTT conference" web site.
